Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), 360-degree liposuctions, & whole body liposuctions, are major procedures that take 2-4 hours to complete. I use local anaesthetic, so you’re totally numb – one big advantage is, that you’ll be very comfortable when you wake up. Also, the anaesthetist will not need to use  medications which create a lot of sickness and vomiting, so your recovery is much quicker, less painful and you are not sick.

What You Should Know About Getting A Tummy Tuck

If you’ve already tried diet and exercise but still haven’t been able to get rid of the flabby tummy, you might be considering getting a tummy tuck, also known as abdominoplasty.

What is a Tummy Tuck?

A tummy tuck is a major surgical procedure that helps remove excess skin or flab around the belly area. During surgery, the doctor will remove extra skin and fat, then tighten the muscles along your abdominal wall, leaving you with a flatter abdomen. Not to be confused with whole body liposuction, which is a whole different procedure, but also can be done by Doctor Aslam.

Best Candidates For Tummy Tucks

While a tummy tuck is suitable for both women and men who are generally in good health, women who had several kids may benefit the most from the procedure. During pregnancy, a woman’s belly stretches out very far, leaving her with visible stretch marks and flabby skin. Having a tummy tuck can help reduce this skin and tighten the abdominal muscles to have a smooth, flat belly. It is also a good option for women or men who have excess loose skin or fat deposits around their waistline. This can be due to previously being obese and then losing weight, leaving excess fat.

The Tummy Tuck Procedure

The procedure begins with the surgeon using a local anaesthetic. Once the anaesthetic takes effect, the physician will make an incision starting below your skin and across your abdominal wall, exposing your muscles. If your abdominal wall muscles have been stretched out, your doctor will sew them together then will pull the skin tightly over your abdominal wall. Next, the doctor trims the excess skin off, and your incision is closed up with sutures. The entire procedure usually takes around two to three hours.

Recovering From Tummy Tuck Surgery

When you wake up after surgery, your stomach will have a surgical dressing covering the incision. You need to change the bandages several times to keep the wound clean. Your doctor may also recommend you use a belly binder, also known as a compression garment. To prevent blood clots from forming, you will need to walk around within a day. To reduce the risk of infection and relieve your pain, your doctor will prescribe you antibiotics and strong pain relievers. The doctor may also use surgical drains for a few days to up to two weeks.

It should take at least six weeks for a full recovery after tummy tuck surgery. Within that time, you will visit your doctor several times for follow-ups in which your doctor checks your incision to ensure it is healing. During the healing process, avoid bending, stretching, or any abdominal extensions that may put a strain on your incision.
