Bigger boobs will increase your confidence. It can be argued about, pontificated on, but if you are here, then you are already know how breast implants can change your mindset and outlook on life. Why shouldn’t you feel better about yourself?
Luckily, boob jobs are safer and easier to conduct than ever before. Below, we guide you through the whole process from start to finish.
The Consultation
The first step when considering breast augmentation is to book the consultation. This consultation can take anywhere from 60 to 90 minutes. It is a time for you to discuss your needs with your Doctor, ask any questions, and let them guide you through the process.
They should take you through the options available. These will include the type of breast implants available. They will also talk about the position of the implant in relation to muscles, and where the incision will be located. It is also a good time for you to ask for references and testimonials.
Size and Width
Before you take part in the consultation, there are a few factors you must think about. This mainly concerns the size and shape of the breast you wish to have. It is perfectly normal to change your mind a few times before coming to a final decision, and this is part of the consultation process.
When discussing breast implants, you must first know that breast implant sizes do not correlate to bra cup sizes. Breast implants are measured in cubic centimetres (CC) or millimetres. The higher the millimetre or CC, the larger the breast and more outward the projection it will give.
The width of the implant at its largest point is also a measure of the breast size. If implants have the same CC, but different widths, they will look a very different size. The lower width will make the breasts protrude more, while the larger width will have a fuller aesthetic.
Shape
Once you have considered the size, you must next think about the shape of the breast. There are two main sizes available and these are round or teardrop shapes.
Teardrop shapes tend to have a more natural look. Most of their bulk is at the bottom of the breast, below the nipple. They mimic the look of a full, natural boob.
Round implants tend to protrude more, giving a fullness at the top. They do look less natural, but it is a very desirable look regardless, that many people opt for.
Profile
A breast implant profile is the third factor to consider. It takes into account how your boobs will look from the side, regardless of shape and size. It can roughly be summed up as the height, or elevation of the breasts on your chest.
Moderate profile breast has a more natural look, as the weight is toward the bottom and they are generally flatter. High profile implants have more projection and provide a ‘push up bra’ look. Again, both of these considerations are down to personal preference and both are very popular.
Preparing for Surgery
The preparation for breast surgery is very much the same process as any operation and is focused on increasing your health and recovery time. It is advised that you give up smoking and cut out some medications, such as birth control pills.
Closer to the operation, you may be asked to refrain from using some over the counter medications. This is to reduce variations in the blood, which may lead to clotting.
The Procedure
Breast enlargement is a much quicker procedure than many people realise. It takes around about an hour to an hour and a half to finish the whole operation. This depends on how and where you choose to have the implant.
The first part of the operation is the incision. This can be placed in three main ways; inframammary, periareolar, and transaxillary.
Inframammary uses the area below the breast as a place for the incision. Periareolar uses a cut around the outer area of the nipple, and the implant is placed through that. Transauxilliary uses a small cut in the armpit, into which the implant is placed and moved into position.
Your doctor will discuss the benefits and cons of all methods. They will most likely have their own preference and will advise you on the best and safest method. After this, the operation will differ slightly depending on the method you have chosen.
Boob Jobs Recovery
The operation will be done under anaesthetic, which can typically last for up to 72 hours. In this time, you will not feel any pain but may feel drowsy, groggy and may even feel a little nauseous. This is perfectly common.
You will spend around one hour in post-recovery in the surgery. After this, each practice will have different guidelines on how long you should stay with them. Many patients will be able to return to work within 5 days.
You should avoid any heavy lifting and upper body exercises for around two weeks. Many people report tightness in the chest as opposed to a pain, which can reside within a week. However, the inside of the breast must be given time to heal so it is important to respect the rest period even if you are feeling well.
